The vanavasam is the book of the Aranthangi sect of Vaishnavites.Commonly called vanavasam, it is recited in temple before god Murugan. It starts with salutations to Muruga and his consorts, Indra and Devala. Then it gives a description about the origin of the universe, which also includes Ramayanam excerpts. The vanavasam then introduces stories like Red-haired Ravana's marriage to Surpanakha; Parvathi Avatharirgin Avaran offering water;Goddess Sadhini confronting Chandrasekharendra Saraswati on Kedara mountain for seeking revenge on Arjuna etc. Kannadasan who was one of the greatest Tamil poets, was born in 1928.He lived in the southern part of the state called Tamil Nadu. Kannadasan wrote innumerable poems like Thiruvasagam, Thiruppugazh, Thirukural etc. He also wrote several books like "Kurinji Podu" , "Brahmi Natchathiram" and many more.
