The multi-talented director probably best known for his work on the critically acclaimed (and heart warming) House of Five Leaves, returns with yet another tale that is infused with the same anarchic energy and incredible visuals. The action scenes are fast-paced and maintain a great amount of tension throughout. However, the answers to many questions raised during the film are never fully revealed. It just leaves you hanging in a cliffhanger type fashion, which may or may not be resolved in future sequels. The film doesn't waste any time introducing us to the main characters and thrusts us right into their adventure. Perhaps it's the fact that they're all high-powered androids, but I found them to be much more human than many other protagonists in anime. The characters and their world are incredibly compelling and the dialogue is written with such brilliance that it makes you want to hear more. The soundtrack adds a great deal of atmosphere to the film, so much so that I found myself tapping my foot or tapping my fingers on the table during certain scenes. The music may not be new to the world of anime, but it is done exceptionally well and can easily match up with some of the greatest tracks in any anime. If you're looking for an action packed Sci-Fi film, then this is definitely your pick. It's full of energy, it's fast-paced, and it'll leave you wanting more. They have really strong performances that only seem to be overshadowed by the fact that there are so many characters that are just talking.
